Character Information
Name: Shouta Aizawa
Canon: My Hero Academia
Canon Point: post-Joint Training Arc (ch. 217)
Age: 31
History: wiki link
Personality:
-Logical. The author's notes describe Aizawa as a character based on the idea of someone who makes only rational decisions and this makes him appear very detached, blunt, and antisocial. He barely puts effort into his appearance and when he's tired, he'll pull out a sleeping bag and nap. When someone's being an idiot, he'll say so, regardless of social niceties. He also has no problems bluntly saying no, or posing questions to his superiors.
He doesn't care about any fame that manifests from being a hero and, in fact, views it as an active detriment to getting work done. He's relatively unknown to the public, instead preferring to work directly with the police and his fellow heroes. He respects and enforces laws regarding quirk use, since they allow heroes to function and without them illogical chaos would reign.
It's important to note that being logical does not exclude lying. Lying can be an important tool in his logical arsenal; he often hides truths from his students to encourage them to meet their full potential. He also seems to get a real kick out of doing it.
-Heroic. While a lot of Aizawa's traits point to him being a pragmatist and not an idealist, that doesn't mean that he is not a hero even by the classic non-job-related description. He does not hesitate to jump into action when someone is in need. He'll even work outside his own "logical" niche. When his students were under attack from villains, he leaped into a situation that was a hundred-to-one, in a wide-open area, and highly disadvantageous to his fighting style. He understands the importance of his students and the importance of a hero not showing fear. When a student expressed worry about him going into such a unfavorable situation, he just insisted that a good hero has more than one trick.
Heroing is also his work and he's a workaholic, maintaining patrols and paperwork on top of his teaching.
-Loner. On top of being a reclusive hero, Aizawa only has a few people he calls friends outside of work. Most of them are the type of people who are just naturally bubbly and obnoxious with the stamina to put up with Aizawa's private nature. He'll go out for drinks occasionally and probably wouldn't identify himself as being abnormally asocial. He just doesn't see the point, a lot of the time.
The one exception is cats. Aizawa canonically has a cat cafe frequent-customer card that is nearly full of stamps. One of his non-work hobbies, fishing, was primarily encouraged because it could be tied to feeding cats.
-Critical. The first threat Aizawa poses to his new class of hero students is expulsion. If anyone doesn't live up to his standards- student or hero- he makes them aware of it. He's not just harsh for the sake of meanness; he's harsh because heroing is a dangerous career. He's expelled multitudes of students because he believes its cruel to let a dream go on to inevitably be crushed. If you're not ready to be a hero, you will die. It's better for most people to give up and live normally than be encouraged to chase a dream that will kill them. He's had to bite down on some of his consequences, though, as the current state of things requires new heroes and so, while he speaks sharply, he's expelled none of his current class.
-Actually a big damn softie. In some cases, the reason he hasn't expelled members of the main class may be due to this. He's shown, time and time again, to encourage Class 1-A beyond what is rational or practical. He's let them slip by on cases they've betrayed his trust, even though that stings and burns. He's even purposefully messed up, in an exam situation, to foster the confidence of a student. He will never say he likes them, because it's not his job to like them, and he needs to be as harsh on them as possible, but... his students are important to him.
Abilities & Skills:
-"Erasure." Most individuals in the My Hero Academia universe are born with a Quirk: some form of biologically-built-in superpower. Aizawa's Quirk is Erasure, a Quirk he consciously activates that disables the Quirk of whoever he's looking at. He can't deactivate the Quirk of a person he can't see, although eye contact from the victim isn't necessary. He cannot deactivate Quirks that have physically altered a person's body (example: your Quirk is having natural spikes all over your body) although he can sometimes stop their activation (example: your Quirk is to shoot spikes out from your body). Due to an injury sustained in canon there is a brief period of time where, after blinking, he can't activate Erasure again.
This ability has the canon tell of his eyes turning red and hair and cloth levitating. Its activation does not make a sound. He can only erase one ability at a time, although he can switch from one person to another without deactivating his Quirk.
-Capture weapon proficiency. To supplement his non-combat-oriented Quirk, Aizawa uses a capture weapon that resembles bandages/cloth but is far harder to break or tear. Using the capture weapon is a combat skill (subduing and restraining enemies) and mobility skill (letting him launch himself to rooftops or away from danger).
-Hand-to-hand combat. Since his Quirk isn't effective on mutant-type Quirks, like big ol' monster people, he's practiced hand-to-hand combat in order to effectively neutralize those targets. Since he doesn't have super strength, he relies on ambush and knocking his opponents off-balance in order to subdue them.
Inventory/Companions:
-Capture scarf: A long, bandage-looking strip of reinforced cloth. Without use of his quirk he won't be able to make it levitate or use it as effectively but damned if he's letting go of it.
-Goggles: A pair of gold goggles with slits. This helps disguise when he's looking at someone or blinking for use in conjunction with his Quirk.
-Caltrops: What are you, a ninja?
-Eye drops: The jury is out if Aizawa's Quirk and dry eye are linked or not but he still wants it.
Choice: Naga
Reason:
Aizawa's use of capture weapon and sight-based Quirk easily translate into the constriction and hypnotism ability of the naga. He naps frequently anyways so the only addition the heat/cold dynamic does for him is that he'll actually seek out human interaction in order to pass out (which will create interesting scenarios). He also understands the type of defensive fighting listed as a naga's weakness. He's not here to pick fights, he's here to stop them.
Also please imagine this man in a 13 ft sleeping bag, it'd be so funny, mods please.
