[Aizawa was entirely certain that he didn't get drunk. From his perspective, he was a perfectly reasonable drinker with a high tolerance. Now, he did have a high tolerance but he did certainly got drunk. He'd gotten drunk so many times over the course of his life. He'd just always managed to end up in a bed or a safe floor by the time he woke up. Part of that was his cockroach-like survival instincts and part of that was the fact that he rarely went drinking without his best friend.]
["Best friend." That was usually how Hizashi put it. Aizawa didn't like to put a name to their relationship. At least not when he was sober.]
[The first time he'd gotten drunk (he would never admit that he was drunk) he had ended up sprawled on Hizashi's lap. He had felt safe and comfortable and...]
[Well, he has no memory of it. He never remembered anything from those blackout nights. If he did, maybe he would be more ashamed to tap against Hizashi's arm with his knuckles and say,]
Hey. Let's get drinks tonight.
[Hizashi is definitely the only person he ever invites for drinks. Everybody else had to drag him along in a group if they could get him to agree at all.]
[ He didn't know what else to call Shouta, honestly. In his thought process, he felt like they were something closer that couldn't quite be described, but he liked showing others Shouta was more than just his friend— somebody special. Maybe he was a bit overboard, maybe his feelings were a bit ahead of himself, but Hizashi was naturally more of a romantic type— a hopeless one at that. Aizawa had grown on him like a fungus since high school, and despite being a full grown and responsible adult with three jobs, he still could never really express to him just how much he felt for him.
And so, they danced around the subject. And so, they did whatever this was.
He felt like maybe he could be happy enough with just that. He couldn't even really tell you why he couldn't admit it. Maybe he was scared it would scare Aizawa away? The guy was so standoffish that even Hizashi had problems reading him sometimes. He would think their bond is close enough that it wouldn't matter, but..
He could just be happy with whatever this was.
The jab gets his attention as they sit in an after school meeting with the principle. He would never deny spending time with him— after all, he felt like getting drinks with him was something reserved for just him. He knew how Aizawa rarely shared his time with anyone else. Though, it's been weird. Shouta has been wanting to drink more frequently than usual, and Hizashi isn't complaining, especially if he ends up sprawled in his lap like the last time.
Mic leans over since the principle isn't quite finished— you know how he can get— and lowers his voice. ]
Tonight? Like.. right afterwards? [ Day drinking? Or are they gonna wait until it's late at night. ]
[If asked, Shouta would just say his class was driving him up the wall. They were quite possibly the biggest group of troublemakers he had seen. Yet, he hadn't expelled a single one. That trouble-making aspect also made them good hero candidates. They had potential. Aizawa didn't encourage people who didn't have potential.]
[Still, the principal had already finished chiding him for the last thing 1-A did, so he doesn't feel too bad about making plans mid-meeting. If he got onto an important topic instead of just talking about what tile to put in the new boy's bathroom, Aizawa would refocus.]
When do either of us leave right afterwards? [There was always something to be done in teaching and hero work. Not that he'd say no to day drinking, just... most of the time by the time they'd decided they'd done enough it was dark anyways.]
If you're busy, I'll just patrol.
[Some people would take that statement, with the way his eyes flick back to the meeting, as a sign of disinterest. In reality, though, it's Shouta's usual way of saying that it was fine to say no. It really should go without saying but Mic could be a people pleaser. He overworked himself enough without agreeing to things just to seem sociable.]
it's all good! typically that happens to people in december!
[ Likewise, Hizashi feels similar in regards to the topic of conversation. Knowing Aizawa, though, can you blame Mic for asking for clarification? Whatever has been getting him drinking more lately has Hizashi's interest, but he hasn't mustered up enough brazen curiosity to ask.
And that's right! He loved making people happy and somehow the way that Aizawa puts his attention back on the principle's chattering and respond nonchalantly like he just did should make him know there's no offense, especially after knowing Shouta for so long, but..
His unreadable behavior still gets him to this day. Hizashi stammers out, waving his hands back and forth but low to the table to not be distracting. ]
A-ah, don't worry about it, bro! You know I like hanging. I can make time for it! Yo, just wait for the text message from me, 'kay?
for handzup
