For all of your:
• Single parent AUs in which somehow this man had a child.
• Single parent AUs in which somehow this man ended up with a child.
• "Actually I have no strong father figure in my life and/or my parental figure is abusive and so my teacher sort of adopted me" AUs.
• "I'm not the kid in this situation but seeing Aizawa gruffly care for children excites my heart in a way I can't take" threads.
• "I accidentally called my teacher 'Dad' and the whole school won't let me forget it and he keeps glaring at me."
• anything else we goddamn want

Something for dinner tomorrow, as a start. [He wasn't going to give his new charge cup noodles. If he was going to be stuck in this parenting situation he intended to do so properly which meant cooking actual meals again.]
Do you have a food you like?
no subject
You don't have food here? [ Shouto looks more than a little worried about him. Maybe he just came at the end of Aizawa's grocery supply. That's possible. ]
I like cold soba.
no subject
I have plenty of food for facilitating a fully grown adult's metabolism. [aka energy water and the most basic of nutrients.] You're still growing, though, that requires a different set of requirements. [And, like, actual meals. He's assuming Endeavor didn't skimp feeding the kid. That wouldn't logically match up with his illogical hero-rearing plan. So, as long as he didn't mess up, the kid wouldn't be malnourished on top of everything else.]
I can pick up soba noodles. [he's not gonna like actually make them, that's rich people or specialist business.]
no subject
While Enji never starved him (what good would my legacy be if it was starving) Shouto didn't really get any sorts of snacks. He had an extremely strict diet ever since he got his quirk.
But Shouto nods before looking at Aizawa very carefully.]
... Can you cook?
no subject
I can. [Just because he doesn't look it, or act it, doesn't mean he can't do it. He tended to try and skip it when there wasn't as much time, though. It was a careful balance of when the nicer meal was worth it and when he could get by on fumes.]
It would be illogical for someone my age to get by without cooking, after all. [His cooking is very simple and standard Japanese. But he can do it.]
no subject
He'll believe Aizawa can cook when he actually sees it for himself and not a moment before.
But standard Japanese coming is what he grew up on. That will suit him just fine.]
That guy never cooked. He brought people in for that.
no subject
... Do I look that rich? [They're living in pretty much a single-room flat, Shouto. A single room. If he hired someone to come in and cook for them, they're liable to start running into each other. Still, it's a reminder that Shouto has a world of different experience due to... many factors of his upbringing.]
Some people can afford to do that. I've always been on my own, though. [Over time, Shouto will learn what an exaggeration that is. While Aizawa mainly lives alone, he's got a close network of dear, annoying friends.] If you're on your own, you'd better learn how to cook. [he grumbles, a bit, shifting the conversation a bit from his currently-unconfirmed cooking status to a kid's instead.]
no subject
[ That's right. He's basically on his own now. He doesn't want anything to do with his father, but he's sure Mom won't want to see him again. There's in guarantee that Aizawa will want to keep him when this is all through.]
Will you teach me? [ He'd best get ready for that eventually. It's only logical. Even if he is an underground hero, he's too busy for a kid. ]
no subject
... Sure. [It's a good skill to have, after all. There's no thought in his mind of abandoning the kid so soon, but it's a little similar to Shouto's train of thought. What they were sharing right now was temporary. If he could at least learn a skill while they were stuck together, all the better.]
If you learn to cook your favorites, then you never have to ask for them. [There were exceptions, of course, but... cold soba wasn't too difficult.]
no subject
Cold soba first.
[Everything else can come later, but that's his favorite and he wants to eat it.]
no subject
Right, I heard you. Important things first.
[He'll even make a note on his phone, see? He's taking this request with the utmost seriousness.]
no subject
Thank you.
... What are we eating tonight?
no subject
Take out. [It's a special night, alright. It's not like he doesn't have ingredients to make anything tonight. He certainly does, just... don't judge him, small child.]
Or, rather, I'll go pick it up considering we don't want to draw too much attention here. Why don't you check and see what's on TV? [... probably a lot of news coverage would be about-] Nevermind that. I'll rent a movie for us. [Probably better.]
no subject
Come back soon.
What kind of movie are you getting?
no subject
Otherwise... a documentary or something like it, maybe. [Surprising no one, Aizawa has boring tastes. In his mind, it's completely normal. Isn't the most efficient way to enjoy a movie... a movie where you're also learning? That was far better than just mindless drivel.]
[so like if you don't have a preference it's gonna be march of the penguins or something]
no subject
Is there one about lions?
no subject
[Weeks pass as the media storm slowly dies down. Endeavor continues his hero work and the public begins to slowly forget about the child shuffled away into the shadows. It even hits the point where he probably doesn't need the All Might hoodie anymore but, much to Aizawa's chagrin, he doesn't want to take it off. They end up ordering another one.]
[Aizawa's house is still very sparse but now there's a corner of Shouto's things, books and pamphlets and activities for him to work on. The fridge is stocked with food and there's a homemade meal just about every night. It's Shouto's turn to cook tonight which means they are having cold soba. Again.]
[Aizawa keeps an eye on him while he cooks, just in case there's something he needs to intervene with. Since they've both got time together, it's also time to address...]
School's starting up again, soon. [For him, that's a pretty simple thing, back to UA. For Shouto, it's more complicated.]
no subject
Shouto hasn't attended an actual public school before, but judging from Aizawa's situation, that's probably where he's going. If Aizawa wants to keep him for a little longer, at least.]
You teach high school, right?
[He can't exactly tag along for that.]
no subject
I teach at UA. That's where I went. [... a long, long time ago. The school had certainly improved its facilities over the years. He never got to beat up so many robots as a teenager. Then again, if he'd been asked to, maybe they wouldn't have accepted him. There's a wide range of famous hero alumni from UA and, had Shouto been left in that situation, he'd inevitably go there too.]
[... not that the school choice would be poor, just everything surrounding it.]
no subject
[But he's still just barely getting into middle school. There's no way Aizawa started in high school though. He had to be a middle school student at some point.]
Where did you go for middle school?
no subject
Nowhere you'd have heard of. I moved here to attend UA.
[he leans back against the wall as he watches]
Because it's the best. [The best school, to jump forward into a career, to become financially independent. He'd achieved that, hadn't he]
no subject
... What's middle school supposed to be like? Are you going to enroll me somewhere?
no subject
If I didn't provide an education for you, I'm sure they'd raise a fuss. We're going to go for the closest place that can provide you the strictest protection. [From his father, from potential villains.. certain middle schools were heavier on control of the quirk aspect and, therefore, had better security measures. That would be necessary, along with some secure way of making sure he made it to and from school.]
[As for what it's like...] I can't promise if it'll be fun or not. Probably more fun that being stuck in here all day.
no subject
[He's not about to throw him into a school without going with him, right? If Aizawa's going to put time into looking for one with enough protection]
I don't mind being in here.
[Time to himself is something he had very little of.]
no subject
Even if you don't mind... you should be around kids your age. Classmates. [and the one that probably shouldn't be the last to come to his mind:] Friends.
